The Fan's Voice

We have earned the right, period.

So there I am, reading Michael Silver's column on Yahoo!, when he proposes a mock draft as follows: every NFL team can draft any NFL player.

His conditions were that the draft order reflect the order that existed before Kennesaw Mountain Goodell pimp-slapped the Patriots.

My conditions will be a bit more fun.

1. My NFL Ultimate Mock Draft will go from Number 32 to Number 1, current draft position notwithstanding. Plain and simple, the last shall go first and the New York (football) Giants shall go last.

2. Be Honest: as you look at each team, you get to pick ONE (1) player that you believe will do the most to turn that team's fortunes around in the coming season. (For example: wherever the Bears draft, they go against conventional wisdom and select Marcus Stroud, or Jared Allen, to team with Tommie Harris and protect Brian Urlacher. A defense that scary could really afford to let Rex The Wonder Dog take snaps again in '08...)

Chime in! I'm curious to see what you all think. And don't worry...I'll be making a blog post out of this because it's just too cool not to think of.

This has to be easiest for the Baltimores and Minnesotas and Atlantas of the world - if you need a quarterback, then that would be your greatest need. By the way, Brother V, this includes da Beluv'd Bears. There will be no going "against conventional wisdom" when the need at The Greatest Position is as glaring as it is for you - particularly if you can cherry pick after the fact rather than actually scouting a Tom Brady or having to make the dreaded Leaf-Manning choice sight unseen.

Even more interesting would be to select a player from any era. I admit that this occurs to me because of the dearth of great middle linebackers right now, the glaring and obvious need for the Donkeys. I want a quarterback on the field, a guy of unquestioned integrity, a leader, a tireless worker, and of course, an axe murderer. I want Mike SIngletary. No Mike in the current NFL really blows my skirt up.
